I lint-scanned 36 MCP servers; a third fail your agent. The issue isn’t the protocol but descriptions, naming, and schema design. I built mcpgrade, a Lighthouse-style scorecard, to surface undocumented parameters and tool descriptions quickly. Results: 15 A-grade servers and 11 D/F, with giants like MongoDB, Notion, and Airtable scoring poorly for missing parameter descriptions; Stripe and Supabase couldn’t be scanned. Findings: (1) undocumented-parameter epidemic, (2) docs discipline matters more than catalog size, (3) usability vs compliance, (4) static scores predict model behavior. Fix: describe every parameter, standardize names, explicit required fields and enums; rescan with mcpgrade.
